Southampton City Council

With the Brexit transition period at an end, we think about the effect this has on the European citizens still living in the UK. The EU settlement scheme looks to offer EU citizens the right to protect their residency in the UK after the transition period time has ended (Brexit). Southampton city council worked alongside employers to provide the right tools and information to support eligible citizens and their families to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme.

We used outreach to communicate with the Polish and Romanian communities by merchandising ethnic stores and the biggest employers in Southampton to encourage the workers to complete the paperwork before the deadline. For the message to be understood clearly the educational leaflets were written in the correct native languages.

Our campaign included paid socials and a FB live event in a Polish community group. We also wrote and published articles in Polish and Romanian portals and newspapers to educate the communities on their rights to stay in the UK. As the deadline was approaching, we pushed the campaign to ensure it had a large reach across Hampshire. Along with the campaigns we delivered we also encouraged Polish and Romanian people to discuss the EU settlement scheme via word of mouth within their communities.

Here at GottaBe! Ethnic we were very pleased with our campaigns with Southampton City Council, successfully achieving their goal of raising awareness of the EU Settlement scheme using Ethnic Marketing to reach the Polish and Romanian communities in Hampshire.
