This Year’s Theme: “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together”
This year’s theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” captures the Hispanic experience’s spirit of innovation, resilience, and unity. It celebrates the community’s trailblazers who are making strides in various fields and contributing to a brighter future for all.
The Significance of Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month has a history that stretches back to 1968, when it was initially established as Hispanic Heritage Week by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Later, in 1988, it was expanded into a month-long celebration by President Ronald Reagan.
The celebration begins on September 15th to coincide with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, with Mexico and Chile celebrating their independence days on September 16th and September 18th, respectively.
